Archie passed the CGC Test!!!

Yay!!! This post is to Congratulate our own Archie, Now known as "Tazwell's Archie of the Rats CGC", on passing the AKC's Canine Good Citizen test!

The CGC test is a 10 step test that proves that Archie is a perfect Canine Good citizen-- he can accept friendly strangers doing strange things to him, accept other dogs politely, and even be left alone with a stranger for 3 minutes! More on the test, HERE.

Archie passed, and I'm SO Proud of him! Ask anybody, it took a lot of work to reach this point! We practiced a lot-- ask anybody who I dragged along to help me :)

He's also featured on the website of the trainer/behaviorist/evaluator that gave us the test, Michael Burkey! I REALLY recommend Michael to anybody who needs a trainer or behaviorist, or something of the sort-- he's a great guy! Thanks Michael!

Archie is featured in the 'Amazing Dogs' Page of his website, please check it out HERE.

Soon we'll receive his certificate, Rosette, Tag, and Bandanna that I HAD to order for him :D He does love his clothes!

Updated pics when they arrive, for sure!

peta's gone over the top, this time

I found this very strange-- Peta comes up with the stupidest reasons to "Go Veg!"

This ad was banned from the 2009 superbowl.

Adoptable Pets

The rescue has quite a few wonderful adoptable pets right now, and so does the local shelters. Here's a few that caught my eye--

From H.E.A.D.S.-

Lacey. No picture yet, but she's a gorgeous dog. Possibly Lab, Setter, Border Collie, or any mix of the three. Jet black with long hair, very slim dog. She's so shy-- she needs a home to call her own! She's only two years old.

Then there's Alli-

She's in desperate need of a foster home. She's still with her surrendering parents. She's very well behaved, a wonderful house dog. But very protective of her owners. No kids, possibly no cats, but other dogs are fine.

Here's Trixie-

Trixie is a wonderful girl with an interesting story. She can't let go of her mothering instincts. She needs a very special home! She's a wonderful dog that gets along very well with kids and other dogs, but we're not sure about cats.

Finally, little JalapeƱo-

Very fun little Chihuahua :) Enough said. He's only 5 lbs, and looks like he was electrocuted with all of that hair like that! Please read his Petfinder page for more info.

Now for some Non-HEADS animals--
Here's a girl that tugs at my heart-strings--

She's so scared, she crawls all the time. They're not even sure whether she's a girl or not! She's at the Brownstown shelter.

Here's a little guy from the Wyandotte Pound--
Chico

He looks like a sweet little guy!

And also from the Wyandotte Pound--
Maddy

They say she's great with kids, and a little over a year old! She sounds like a wonderful girl.

From the Dearborn Shelter--
Martin

They say he's about 12 years old, and a real sweetie!

From the City of Detroit Shelter--
Simone

Interesting looking dog!

From the Monroe County Humane Society--

Niner

They say she was found tied to a tree, abandoned-- her face just breaks my heart.

Rose Petal

This one's for you, Brandy!!!

Rose petal lost her family-- she's adorable!!! She's at the Monroe county humane society.

And finally, from the Monroe county animal control--

Cage A2

Stunning looking dog.

And Finally, an ARchie-Look-alike!
Cage B28

Looks like a big Archie!

That's it for now :)

Scooter

Well, Scooter is doing awesome--

He went and got his stitches out today, from his neuter, and all went very well. Archie went too. And Jordan. He wasn't happy, he had to share the front seat with Archie :)

Anyway, Scooter is looking great-- his hair grew back, his teeth are great (well, what's left of them.), his ears are doing wonderfully, his worms are finally gone, and he 's a MUCH happier dog! His face is all healed up, too. He runs, he plays, and I even saw him pant once or twice! How exciting!

Here he is, happy as a clam :)

And with Gina--

I hope I can keep him. He's recovered so well, he's a very, very healthy dog now. He'll be around for quite some time, I believe.

Now if only I could find a way to go get those pit bulls... :)

'Twas the night before Christmas...

T'was The Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas and the shelter was dark,
The whole place was silent, not even a bark.
The dogs were all locked in their pens for the night,
The staff had gone home and turned out the light.

As I lay my head down on the cold concrete floor,
I fondly recalled the home I had before.
The family I loved who loved me right back,
We'd shared everything from a secret to snack.

Things couldn't be better at this time last year,
But that has all changed and now I am here.
I won't see the tree, the lights or the snow,
I'm scared and alone, my spirits are low.

The others like me weren't put up for adoption,
A new family and home, for us isn't an option.
We've been locked up in cells as if we're all crooks,
We don't deserve homes because of our looks.

Not Diesel, or Bingo or the young one named Percy,
Deserve to be loved nor shown any mercy.
While families celebrate with holiday cheer,
I know in my heart that my end is near.

The vet will arrive, the lights will go on,
By the time you awake, we all will be gone.
A stranger will come and take me away,
I'll never awake to see another day.

As I at last close my eyes I'll shed you a tear,
The fond memories, with you, I'll always keep near.
The only thing I've ever asked of dear Santa Claus,
Is to stop all these unfair and ridiculous laws.

You said without me, your life was not full,
So why does it matter that I'm a "pitbull"?.
In my dream Santa shouts when he's finished his deed,
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL REGARDLESS OF BREED!

My new dog

Today was somewhat of a difficult day for me; but I ended up with another good friend, in the end. I rescued Scooter from a difficult situation , but that's really not even what's bothering me so much. It's what I left behind there, that's bothering me.

Poor Scooter hasn't ever been in a car, for a walk, on a leash, to the vet, had a bath, had his nails done, or anything else that dogs should be able to have regularly. He's somewhere between 10 and 13 years old, and he's in pain.

Scooter has an abscessed tooth, which created a big sore on his face, that was not taken care of- and became infected. He's got horribly infected ears; and his teeth are awful. The pain in his mouth keeps him from eating. He's been eating Kibbles and bits, and everybody knows how much I love to feed my dogs Kibbles and Bits (Rolling my eyes...). He's got worms, and quite a few other things wrong with him, as well.

Now, Scooter has been to the vet, got lots of medicine, had a nice, warm bath, and is chilling here with us. He can be Archie's new big brother! So far they're doing pretty good together.

I knew I'd never have a young dog... And I don't care a bit!

What I left behind, was what bothered me more. Chained, Hungry, starving for attention and love Pit Bulls. And a Baby Pit bull. I'll never forget those dogs, or what I saw there. The same damn thing as last time.
